Investment bank directory

A bank either deals with commercial banking or investment banking. In commercial banking, the banking institution collects deposits from clients and provides direct loans to businesses and individuals.

An investment bank is a financial institution that raises capital, manages corporate mergers and acquisitions, and trades in securities. The investment banks make a profit from raising capital for companies and governments by issuing and selling securities, insuring bonds, and provide advice dealing with merger and acquisition transactions. Not every bank is an investment bank; there are investment bank directories available that provide a list of which banks fall into this category.

The investment bank is organized into activities and units commonly referred to as front office, middle office, and back office.
The role of the front office of an investment bank involves: investment banking (helping their customers raise funds in capital markets and provides advise on mergers and acquisitions); sales and trading (the buying and selling of financial products with the aim to make a profit); research (review of companies and reporting on their prospects to determine if purchasing their stock would be a wise investment); custody and agency services (provides cash management, lending, and securities brokerage services to institutions); investment management (management of various securities and other assets such as real estate to meet investment goals that benefit the investor); and merchant banking (the private equity activity of an investment bank).

The role of the front office of an investment bank involves: risk management (the analysis of the market and credit risks being made by the traders on their daily trades); finance (responsible for the capital management and risk monitoring of the investment bank’s capital); and compliance (making sure the investment banks operations are in compliance with internal and government regulations).

The role of the front office of an investment bank involves: operations (the data checking of trades that have been conducted for errors and making the required transfers), and technology (a team of information technology experts that provide support for banking software).

There are numerous lists of investment bank directories available on the internet. Investment banks are world-wide but are concentrated heavily in a few cities such as New York City, New York, USA; London, England, United Kingdom; and Tokyo, Japan. Some of the more sell known investment banks include: Banco Santander, Bank of American, Barclays, JP Morgan Chase, Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, Kotak Mahindra, Merrill Lynch, Scotia Capital, UBS, and Wells Fargo.
